Becoming Soul Paper

The building that Soul Paper calls home is the oldest one on our block.  Built in 1908 it has seen Saskatoon ebb and flow into the great city it has become.  With its many tenants it has truly contributed to the entrepreneurial spirit in Saskatoon. Given the history of Riversdale you can imagine the stories it could tell.  We love historical buildings and are happy to be a part of this ones story.  When we took over the lease for Soul Paper we wanted to create a space that paid homage to our buildings history and at the same time breathed new life into it's purpose.  It took us 8 months and lots of TLC but we are happy with the outcome and have heard from many of you that you feel the same.

Behind our curtain with the sweet birds on it, is our studio space. This part of the shop was actually an addition originally tacked on to the building sometime in the 1950’s and has served as a storage shed, cooler, kitchen and print shop.  At least, that’s what the neighbours have told us.  We took some time to decide how we wanted the studio to look and function, as it still serves many purposes.  We wanted it to be inviting and fun for our workshops, meet-ups and events. A place where everyone feels welcome and at home.

The Soul Paper workshop is located in the far reaches of our little shop on 20th Street West. At approximately 400 square feet (37 square meters) its pint size makes it cozy yet very functional. Used as our mild mannered receiving/shipping & general staff work space by day, it transforms into a fully functioning workshop space that can accommodate up to 12 seated at tables during a class.

 

 

Welcome!

We originally designed the space to hold our own workshops and events but given the many requests we have had from individuals, groups and private instructors, who love the warm and inviting intimacy our space provides, we reconsidered.  It is so lovely to share our space with you.

The Space - Technical Stuff.

  • The space is approximately 400 sq. ft.
  • Occupancy for 12 - seated at 2 tables.
  • Optimal Occupancy - 8 with 2 instructors.
  • Orientation and layout is flexible.
  • Kitchenette with running water.
  • Access to shared (private/staff) washroom.
  • Multiple exits.

Bookings

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, our Workshops and Classes are on hold as is our rental service.  We will announce here when we are open again.  In the meanwhile, this is the process for booking;
